*The posts from this trip to Put-in-Bay, Ohio (September 2017) are the last few posts moved from my former 1000 Things Ohio blog to my main blog here. This was a sponsored trip though I was not paid.
Back in September, near the end of the official summer-tourist season, we spent a couple nights on Put-in-Bay, South Bass Island which is part of Ohio. There are a lot of small islands in Lake Erie but not all are inhabited by people. While you can visit Kelleys Island for a more laid-back, outdoorsy time – South Bass Island has more for the whole family to do, in my opinion. Before you head out to South Bass Island though see my post about how to plan a relaxing trip to Put-in-Bay so you’re prepared. You’ll see why.
While our family has taken day trips out to Put-in-Bay in the past this was our first time staying overnight! This particular trip was made possible with the help of Lake Erie Shores & Islands, Miller Boat Line and E’s Golf Carts rentals. I was not paid for this trip and opinions are my own.
If you didn’t catch my first two posts about this trip you will find links to those posts at the bottom of this one.
There are two ways to travel to Put-in-Bay, South Bass Island, Ohio…by boat or plane. The entire South Bass Island is less than four miles long and less than two miles wide. It is situated about three miles away from the coastline of Ohio’s mainland.
We traveled by Miller Boat Line on this trip and docked at the Lime Kiln Dock which is a short walk to E’s Golf Carts. In the past we would walk immediately to get our golf cart, but on this trip we took our van with us. We would be renting a golf cart the next day so we could enjoy traveling around the island and parking in the golf cart spots. There may be some limits as to where you can park with a larger vehicle.
E’s is one of the few cart rentals on the island that allow you to reserve and pay for your cart ahead of time! Just go to their website (see link at end of post) and use their given promotional code to save $5 your daily rental. E’s does not rent overnight, or take same day reservations yet.
Here are some of the attractions and places to drive your golf cart to on Put-in-Bay, South Bass Island:
- downtown to shop, eat and play at the park (there is a large public restroom available at the park)
- South Bass Island State Park (has links for printable maps, camping)
- Perry’s Cave Family Fun Center
- Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial
- Crystal Cave & Heineman’s Winery (Ohio’s oldest family owned/run winery 1888)
- MORE – see the link at the end of this post to the Lake Erie Shores & Islands website.
Again, E’s Golf Carts is one of the few cart rentals on the island that allow you to reserve and pay for your cart ahead of time! Just go to our website (see link below) and use the given promotional code to save $5 your daily rental. We do not rent overnight, or take same day reservations yet.
Also, in the shoulder seasons (April-June, September-October) we do a 2,4,6 passenger Miller Boat Line package, where you buy your tickets on the Miller Ferry (round trip) at a discounted rate as well as a discounted rate on your golf cart.
Visit Lake Erie Shores & Islands at their website here to find out where all the fun is happening on Put-in-Bay, South Bass Island, Ohio.
