(Originally posted in Nov. 2017) I discontinued my other blog 1000 things Ohio and am moving those poss here. Last month our family took a weekend trip to Kentucky to visit the Ark Encounter and the Creation Museum. Special thanks to DAT Travel for setting up this trip and securing our hotel and tickets. Opinions are mine.
Our Visit to the Creation Museum
After settling in at our hotel for the night, which I will tell you about in an upcoming post, our first full day in Kentucky was centered around visiting the Ark Encounter. You can read about our visit here. In this post I will be sharing about our visit to the Creation Museum.
Be sure to follow to the end. We also visited a couple places in Ohio that you may be interested in learning more about as well.
This was not our first visit to the Creation Museum. We came out here many years ago for New Year’s Eve and saw the Christmas Town set up, the small zoo and Christmas lights on the grounds. There is a lot of reading in the displays at the Creation Museum and our boys were too young for most of that probably, back then. At 11 and 13 they were able to read and understand those sections better on this trip.
The Message of the Creation Museum
The message of the Creation Museum can summarized by two biblicly factual statements: first, that God created the world and it’s inhabitants in six literal days and, second, that because of man’s sin God had to come to earth to pay our sin debt and by trusting in Him we can be saved. Let me break that down a bit more below.
As I mentioned above, the Creation Museum really highlights not only the scriptural fact that God created the world and everything in it in six literal days (Genesis 1) but also the gospel (good news of salvation) from the beginning (before sin) when God created the world to the point when sin entered the picture (with the rebellion of Adam) to the cure for sin. There is only one cure.
Because of Adam’s sin, all of mankind (Adam’s descendants, that’s us) fall under that curse. We are all sinners by nature and by our own choices (Genesis 3). We all fall short of God’s glory (Romans 3). Our sins separate us from God who is holy and the only God-approved way of restoring fellowship with us was for our sins to be covered and paid for by a holy blood sacrifice (John 3). This is where Jesus enters the picture.
By the way, Jesus has always existed. He is God. Some people get confused, they think there are three Gods, but that is so wrong! The Bible clearly teaches that God is one.
See, God made man in His image in the beginning…just as there are three parts to God (God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit), yet He is one, there are three parts to each of us (body, soul and spirit). I have a body, a soul and a spirit and so do you.
God told Adam that in the day he would eat from that one tree that was off-limits Adam would surely die. But it was not a physical death Adam experienced, it was a spiritual death. And so that same spiritual curse passed upon all of us.That is why Jesus told Nicodemus in John 3 that we must be born-again. It’s a spiritual rebirth because our spirit is dead because of our sin. Read John 3 carefully.
Born-again, saved. These are words right out of scripture. The Philippian jailer asked Paul and Silas, “what must I do to be saved?” They told him what the scriptures said about Christ and the jailer believed and received Christ as his Savior. Read I Corinthians 15 (especially verses 1-5) and Acts 16:25-34.
Are you saved? Do you know Christ personally? I received him many years ago by faith and have been walking with him for so long, I can tell you there is no other relationship or “thing” that can bring the peace that knowing Christ brings. If you don’t know him, please get a King James Bible and read the chapters I linked above. I will also have those chapters linked to an online Bible you can read. If you want to ask me a question you can do so in the comments or email me.
Outside of the Creation Museum you’ll find beautifully landscaped grounds and small zoo setting. They also have ziplining. From inside the museum we were able to watch some visitors zipline. The Creation Museum decorates for the holidays and sets up their Christmas Town at the Museum event. You can learn more about their calendar of events at the website and I’ll give you a link at the end of this post.
I recommend getting the combo tickets to see both the Creation Museum and the Ark Encounter. Both establishments are worthy of visiting at least once in your lifetime and they are a short drive from each other. There’s so much to see, especially at the Ark because it’s HUGE, that you really should break these visits into two days: one day at the Creation Museum and one day at the Ark Encounter.
