The last weekend in May was the beginning of Bike in Ohio as you can kind of see by my picture. It was also the weekend of the Teach Them Diligently homeschool conference held at Kalahari and our family had committed to help Master Books (New Leaf Publishing) work their booth in the exhibit hall all weekend!
My connection with Master Books goes back to 2011 when I joined their Moms of Master Books review group. Master Books prints a lot of homeschooling books, among other things. Since we were helping from set-up to tear-down over this three day conference we were going to need a place to stay. I want to say thank you to Jill at Lake Erie Shores and Islands for arranging our stay with Best Western Plus in exchange for this review. Opinions are our own.
This Best Western Plus is just down the road from the Kalahari Waterpark Resort and not too far from all the stores and restaurants in what I consider the “heart” of Sandusky. That’s where you’ll find Starbucks, Target, Meijers, the Lake Erie Shores and Islands information center, Great Wolf Lodge, and Maui Sands, to name some places that come to mind.
We’ve spent a lot of time in Sandusky visiting and reviewing different places for family fun over the years! We’ve even taken the Miller Ferry and Jet Express to do some island hopping at Put ‘n Bay and Kelleys Island.
There’s SO much to do in Sandusky so be sure to stop in at Lake Erie Shores and Islands to pick up information and check their website here to find out what discounts are being offered and where during your stay!
But let’s talk about this wonderful suite and the great amenities we were blessed to experience for all three nights as we worked the Teach Them Diligently. Comfort, beauty, relaxation…this Best Western Plus had it all PLUS 24 hour coffee and a hot breakfast in a beautiful cafe room.
When you’re done reading my post be sure to check out all my Instagram pictures from our trip by following these links: #HOFMTravels .
In addition to the classy decor and comfy room you can see we had a desk to work at, a bench for our luggage, a sofa, and as you’ll see below we had a fridge, microwave and coffee maker. They even have a therapy pool in the basement next to the exercise room.
We used ALL of it, except maybe the exercise room. After standing on my feet for many hours a day I was NOT exercising 🙂 .
Such a beautiful room and, not only that, this room was spacious with a high ceiling which made it more homey, in my opinion. When a place feels like a real home I think it becomes more relaxing.
Soon after we checked in my husband decided to try out the bed; he needed a nap! He said this bed was more comfortable than the bed in the condo we rented on our Myrtle Beach trip.
As you can see the bathroom was as classy as the bedroom.
I loved having so much room in the fridge for the food we brought along. Eating in our room cut some of our food expenses. I certainly appreciated this taller roomy fridge. The microwave and coffee maker sit above.
The therapy pool was a welcome treat after standing on my feet for so many hours. A lot of the time it was just me (not my husband and boys) working the conference as I was helping sell the products. It was such a fun experience getting to meet some of the authors New Leaf publishes for and working with all the nice people associated with Master Books!
After it was over and we were back home I felt like I had been away at summer church camp (but for adults, not kids); because, the people I worked with were so much fun to be around!
My husband’s part of the job was to help move heavy stuff, set up and tear down. While I helped set up some of the books on the tables my main job was to help sell because I actually have a lot of experience with Master Books products. Joel also got the job of rubbing my tired feet!
As my friend from the south use to say, “MY DOGS WERE BARKING!”.
My husband and boys had more time than I to hit the therapy pool and the indoor and outdoor pools next door at the Comfort Inn.
YES, you read that right. Here’s a surprise for you, Comfort Inn next to Best Western Plus on Milan Rd. in Sandusky are associated together; and, if you are staying at Best Western Plus you get rights to walk across the parking lot and enjoy either of their pools AND they have an outdoor eating area/bar near the pool.
I did mention the hot breakfast and lovely dining room. My favorite items on the menu are shown below. They did have other hot items from “make your own pancakes on the spot” to eggs, fruit and more.
The more we visit Sandusky the more it feels like our home away from home. We had a great stay and I can certainly recommend this Best Western Plus to anyone needing a comfortable, relaxing place to stay.
