I love history. There’s something wondrously mysterious about discovering the past; something kind of amazing about standing in the same room that has original features that people long gone once stood in and looked at too. Recently I toured the 1920 Canton Woman’s Club which resides in a building that was once a home built in 1867.

1867. That was  two years after the Civil War ended and the same year that Laura Ingalls Wilder was born.

The Canton Woman’s Club sits on a piece of land that was granted to Bezaleel Wells by President James Madison in 1810, the 4th U.S. President.  Though there have been changes and additions over the years, the archways, sliding doors and window frames are original as is the marble fire place with carved etchings.

Did you know you do not need to be a member of the club to rent the rooms for such things as:

  • Bridal Showers
  • Rehearsal Dinners
  • Wedding Receptions
  • Baby Showers
  • Anniversary Parties
  • Retirement Parties
  • Birthday Parties
  • Victorian High Tea
  • Holiday Celebrations

There are five or 6 rooms upstairs (see my collage below) including a very large room that holds 200 people, has a piano and a little stage. There are a couple large rooms downstairs too.

The Club

The club has a catering department. Club Manager, Tommy May (seen below talking to us) invited me and a few other local bloggers to be guests of the “evening section’s” monthly dinner and meeting. The meal was delicious and the speaker was interesting and informative.

There is also a “day section” of lady members. The “day section” is the oldest of the two sections- the original Woman’s Club members of 1920. They meet twice a month on the second and fourth Thursdays beginning at 11 am.

Allie from Couponing In Birdland, Megan from Best Bib & Tucker , and Danielle from Find Time for Fun were the other bloggers who joined me as guests of the Canton Woman’s Club.

In addition to offering ladies club membership, offering the public party rooms to rent, the Club also does Box Lunches and will deliver to your office building in the downtown Canton area.

*This is not a paid post. Opinions are my own. We were invited as guests to the Club so that we could learn about it and share that information with our readers. We did receive a box of yummy “club standard” sticky buns to enjoy at home 🙂 .
