For the most part we lived the unplugged life this past weekend while visiting a couple of Ohio’s islands on Lake Erie.
We live in Ohio and Ohio borders Lake Erie. Lake Erie is the warmest and shallowest of the five Great Lakes: Lake Huron, Lake Ontario, Lake Michigan, Lake Erie and Lake Superior. You can easily remember the names of the five great lakes by the acronym H O M E S.
On the mainland of Ohio near the coastline we have places like Cedar Point– a very popular amusement park- out in Lake Erie there are 27 islands. Not all are developed, some are private, some belong to Canada and then there are a couple we just came back from visiting this weekend.
We spent two nights on Kelleys Island and then the good part of a day touring South Bass Island’s Put ‘n Bay. I know for many people the thought of Put ‘n Bay is probably synonymous with “partying”, but we are not drinking, partying people – and we have kids besides. So what were we doing on Put ‘ n Bay?
This week I’m going to tell you about Kelleys Island and Put ‘n Bay from a family-friendly perspective. Camp Patmos put us up for the two nights we were on Kelleys Island and we ferried, we Jet Expressed, we “train toured”, we played, we drove, … we discovered!
I have lots of pictures, lots of videos – that means I have lots to edit!
I plan to devote the better part of this week debriefing you about our island discoveries and what you need to know if you think you’d like to visit one or both of these islands.
- I’ll talk prices, packages, what we did, what we didn’t, where we ate and those “things we could have done better”. I hope you’ll stick around.

A lot happens and has happened around Lake Erie. In fact, today is the bicentennial commemoration of the War of 1812 which began June 18, 1812. The Battle of Lake Erie did not happen until September 1813 and there are plans to commemorate that next year.
*Our trip to the islands was made possible by Lake Erie Shores & Islands public relations who arranged the major needs of our weekend travel. More details will be given in the following posts as necessary. ALL opinions are mine and my families. We do not have to give a favorable review nor are we paid to do so.

Cedar Point has been in touch with me and I might be giving away some tickets. Hopefully!
We LOVE Cedar Point, but haven’t been there in probably 15 years… Yikes! Looking forward to hearing about what else is around that area to enjoy! Thanks!
