Earlier this month we hopped in the car and took off for Berlin, Ohio near Sugarcreek in beautiful Amish country. Its not too far from Canton and I’ve certainly been out that way more times that I can remember, but where we ate was new to me and it wasn’t Amish cooking. In fact, today where we ate was the reason we were in Berlin.
A few months ago the “district manager”, whom I’ve known from the time we were both kids, invited us to come out and review the diner. I’ve never eaten in an East of Chicago Pizza diner and there are not many around here. It was a nice opportunity to get out and see Amish country again.
The interior decor was very nice with a classy edge to it- and they have a party room in the back (see first picture on the bottom row above).
The food was great! I’m being honest. I love this kind of crust. They have a salad bar too, but I saved room for the pizza. And not just the “pizza”, but I made room for the dessert pizza: today we had peanut butter & jelly pizza (better than what I expected! and served warm...mmmm) and a chocolate peanut butter pizza.
James, the “district manager”, told me he lets the employees experiment with different concoctions. See both dessert pizzas I tried in the photos below.
I know Amish and good cooking go hand in hand. I’m sure many people would be wanting a good Amish “home cooked meal” when they visit areas like Berlin; but let me tell you, the Amish don’t just eat good home cooking. I was very amused to hear how many will order East of Chicago when they have access to a phone and have it delivered to their homes! I thought that was cute.
After we ate we walked from shop to shop on Main Street checking things out, sampled some delicious candy at Coblentz, and saw a magic trick or two (can’t remember the name of the shop). I think the Christmas season would make for a fun trip out there again. Buggy rides were offered for the cost of a donation too.
If you plan to visit Berlin to do some Christmas shopping remember you can also get a delicious pizza buffet now.

Yes! – and yummmm.
Well what are you waiting for girl! You can get it both done in Berlin now. 🙂
Since moving here from Chicago we have been wanting to try East of Chicago pizza! And we still haven’t taken the kids to Amish land!

Nice to know there is another place to get good food in the area!
