Airborne Ted is a personal friend of ours. One day the boys and I visited him and he shared about the day he enlisted in the war. He was a newspaper boy back in December 1941 and the headlines that day told of the Pearl Harbor attack. He finished his paper delivery and enlisted – having lied about his age. Ted recently celebrated his 89th birthday and shared a bit of his enlisted time in the 82nd Airborn Division as a parachuter in Saturday’s edition of the Canton Repository here.
Enjoy his story and remember to teach your children that their freedom hasn’t been free, for many families have paid the price for us all.
When you think about it, it’s also a great picture of the price God paid by giving us his Son Jesus Christ to pay our sin-debt on the cross. Because of his death and resurrecton we are offered spiritual freedom, which is above all, theĀ greatest freedom of all.
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
-Ephesians 2:8-9
This is a gift that must be received though. There is no universal spiritual salvation. Read, It’s Your Choice at the bottom of this post.
