working out at the gym

Its been 6.5 yrs since I had my last baby and though I didn’t gain very much weight, I haven’t totally lost all of it either. Let’s just say I’d like to lose 15 pounds. I know that doesn’t sound like a lot, but I’m not skilled at the art of losing weight – hehe. I know, I know. You just have to consume less calories than what you’re burning right?

Back in the Old Days

A few years ago we had a family membership to the YMCA. We used the North Canton Y and I thought it was really nice. But money has always been a tight issue and we were able to get a scholarship/discount through the Y which brought our payments down to about half per month. I think at the time we were paying about $30 a month with that discount. Then the economy took a turn for the worst and my husband lost hours at work and we lost some income. And we ended our gym membership. They have kids’ programs, child care for while you work out, and a playroom for the really young ones.

Since then I have joined Planet Fitness. Twice. The first time I wasn’t really dedicated to spending time there. I ended up canceling. As of last month I rejoined –  for the $10 a month membership. That is an awesome price!  I don’t feel so bad leaving the family for an hour a couple days or so a week. And this time, I’m dedicated.

Okay, well, unless it snows a lot or possibly when it gets freakingly cold and then I don’t want to go 🙂  – my story this week.

There seems to be no shortage of places to workout in our area. We have  various YMCA locations, we have Planet Fitness, the Massillon Recreation Center, Anytime Fitness, Curves and more.  I can’t tell you much about all of them but I can tell you that Curves is offering free consultations through February 28th and I can tell you about my experience at Planet Fitness.

The Curves offer:  Burn up to 500 calories with our 30-minute workout, which combines strength training and cardio for a workout that works your entire body–from head to toe. It works every major muscle group and gives you results that last.  The consult is absolutely FREE! Some restrictions may apply. Valid only at participating locations in the US and Canada. ©2012 Curves International, Inc.

Planet Fitness

At Planet Fitness there are two levels of membership. The $10 a month which does come with free training  as well as use the machines and weights. Then there is the $20 membership that comes with tanning, massages, and guest privileges. There is no childcare. Planet Fitness is open almost 24/7.

My Family

My husband gets enough exercise (I hope) at his “new” job and my boys naturally find ways to expend energy – and sometimes they take a special gym class for homeschoolers at the Massillon Recreation Center   (that’s them in the picture at top).  The gym  is where I get to work on me- and my news-junkie-self gets to watch some cable tv  😀 .
