{My husband, Joel, has been assisting me with this series and today’s post is written by him.}
This is the 7th out of 13 Saturdays in this series. Six more to go! I hope you’ll subscribe so you don’t miss them 😉
So far in our study, we have seen that the Bible is scientifically true, prophetically accurate, amazingly consistent, and reveals patterns in our universe. And if you don’t study it or rightly divide it properly, you basically end up like evolutionists, with doctrine that ultimately denies the creator.
That should be enough to show that the Bible is a different kind of book, not a normal book. Just try this simple test. Go out into a public place and carry a Bible around with you, without hiding it. I’d bet anything you will feel like people are staring at you. Not many books make you feel uneasy while carrying it. Most of the other books that make you feel uneasy are because you get them behind the counter at drug stores.
This weeks study is another example of why the Bible is unlike any other book. To show why, we will take a little detour though. And show the importance of a name – God’s, both God the Father, and God the Son, which is Jesus.
- Psalm 8:1 O LORD, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!
- Psalm 148:13 Let them praise the name of the LORD: for his name alone is excellent; his glory is above the earth and heaven.
- 2 Samuel 7:26 And let thy name be magnified for ever, saying, The LORD of hosts is the God over Israel:
- 1 Kings 8:43 … that all the people of the earth may know thy name, to fear thee, as do thy people Israel;
- Isaiah 25:1 O Lord, thou art my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast done wonderful things;
- Jeremiah 10:6 Forasmuch as there is none like unto thee, O LORD; thou art great, and thy name is great in might.
- Psalm 135:13 Thy name, O LORD, endureth for ever; and thy memorial, O LORD, throughout all generations.
- Psalm 25:11 For thy name’s sake, O LORD, pardon mine iniquity; for it is great.
- Matthew 6:9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
- John 12:28 Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.
Yes, this is just a sampling. There are many more regarding God the Father. Now, let’s look at the name of Jesus.
- Hebrews 1:4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name then they.
- John 20:31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
- Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
- Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
- Ephesians 1:20 – 21 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come.
- Revelation 19:13 … and his name is called The Word of God.
- Revelation 19:16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
- Philippians 2:9-11 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Pretty powerful stuff, huh!
There is no denying, if you believe the Bible, that God’s name and Jesus’s name are way up there.
But check out this next verse…
Psalm 138:2 I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou has magnified thy word above all thy name.
Did you understand what that verse said?
Even though we have all those verses about God and Jesus’ name showing how powerful they both are God says his word (The Bible) is above his name! That is incredible. But listen, without the Bible we know nothing about his name. There is no other book like it!
This is week number seven in this series. The number seven in the bible represents perfection and completion. You can’t get any more perfect or complete than God’s word.
